Announcement of a 3.2 MW Generator Project for Utility-Scale Wind Turbines
Lévis, 15 March 2013 — On behalf of Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Joe Oliver, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie, visited on March 11, 2013 the Lévis offices of Eocycle Technologies to announce an investment over $5.9 million from Sustainable Development Technology Canada’s (SDTC) SD Tech Fund™.
This investment will enable Eocycle to demonstrate, this time for megawatt-capacity wind turbines, the commercial and technical viability of its Transverse Flux Permanent Magnet (TFPM) generator technology already successfully used within the direct-drive EO-25/12 wind turbine designed, manufactured and sold by Eocycle. This high-torque, low-speed generator technology allows making smaller and more lightweight machines, resulting in a significant cost reduction of up to 35 percent compared with the closest competing generator technology currently used by large wind turbine manufacturers.
“The SDTC financial support for Eocycle Technologies’ research and development activities will help to greatly expand the application limits of the technology developed by our company during the last decade,” said Gérard Bozet, President and General Manager of Eocycle Technologies. “With this important support we will now be able to demonstrate to large wind turbine manufacturers the competitive advantages of our state-of-the-art technology. We will also be able to grow and evolve by fully integrating ourselves into their supply chain.”
